That’s the new “slogan” and program of the Philippines Department of Tourism.
I’ve been following the saga of the tourism slogan/campaign from WOW Philippines, to Pilipinas Kay Ganda to It’s More Fun In The Philippines.
I’ve noticed that the department of tourism seems to believe that putting all of it’s beliefs in a slogan and set of words will magically increase the tourism and visits per year. I agree that a set theme is a good start, I also think alot of time has been wasted on a set of words and almost no time has been spent working Philippines, it’ll show people that there is way more to the Philippines than Nipa huts, Manny Pacquiao, Pineapples and Manila.
Let the world see Boracay’s white sands, El Nido’s hidden secrets, Cebu’s Lechon, Baguio’s cool weather and pine trees, Pampanga’s strange cuisine, Tagaytay’s Cliffs, Makati’s posh shopping atmosphere, I know I’m missing many areas, but these are just examples anyway.
I also think that it’s important to find a way to make the Philippines more appealing to first time visitors, maybe offer a lottery, where the plane ticket is offered for free. If you do some research on people doing round the world trips, or even Southeast Asian trips, The Philippines is often overlooked for the more modern and counties in the area. I think exposure to first time visitors would make a huge difference.
WOW Philippines had a strong backing from Filipinos. I just really think that it was allowed to die and become stagnant because it was someone else’s idea, and sadly, that’s all it took for it to become ineffective and useless. I understand that the program is old, and that could be another huge downfall for WOW Philippines, it’s overstayed it’s welcome.
Pilipinas Kay Ganda was dead in the water before it even got started, sadly it was halfheartedly created, with even the logo being pilfered from another country’s tourism website. There was outrage in the travel blogosphere, bloggers had their pi tchforks and torches ready to burn down the whole idea pretty early on.
Now we’ve arrived at “It’s More Fun In The Philippines”. I have really high hopes for this. I will be following the website and news closely. The Philippines have now placed the burden on themselves to show me, that they can prove WHY It’s more fun in the Philippines.
